CHICAGO, June 10, 2025 — Deliveries to the food-away-from-home customers of distributor United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI) have been disrupted by a cyberattack on the company’s technology systems, executives have confirmed.
The distributor said Monday in a securities filing that the business interruptions have been temporary but acknowledged that the problems could persist for some time.
The security breach was first detected on Thursday, according to the SEC filing. Law-enforcement authorities were alerted, and an investigation was begun.
During UNFI’s already-scheduled conference call on Tuesday to discuss the public company’s third-quarter financial results with Wall Street analysts, executives revealed its whole delivery network was shut down by Friday afternoon.
A press release issued Monday indicated the company’s systems were still offline. It was not clear how much of the network was back up by late Tuesday.
Social media posts showed pictures of nearly emptied shelves at some branches of Whole Foods, UNFI’s largest customer.
UNFI’s main business is distributing groceries and ready-to-eat products to major retailers, but its website shows that the client list also includes restaurants and colleges.
