Joint Business Planning (JBP) serves as Phase II of IFMA’s Operator/Manufacturer Collaboration Model, referred to as the OCM for short. Joint Business Planning is an industrywide initiative addressing the need for standardized processes across a wealth of complex businesses areas, ranging from demand creation to fulfillment.
JBP focuses on communications and metrics required to facilitate collaboration in planning between supply chain partners. This benefits the industry by creating more targeted products that drive increased sales and profitability throughout the supply chain.
About the Origins of Joint Business Planning
In 2014 IFMA joined forces with The Partnering Group (TPG) and a committee of 30 chain operators and manufacturers to champion the development of the OCM—a new best-practice model for collaboration. Phase I of the OCM established a customizable segmentation tool and scorecard that operators can use to segment suppliers and that manufacturers can use to segment their largest accounts. The end result is a blueprint on how to best work with different customers and to ensure the right amount of resources are invested in each relationship.
About Joint Business Planning – OCM Phase II
Joint Business Planning became a natural Phase II extension of the work the OCM Committee began in 2014 and finished with the creation of Phase I segmentation processes. Now, with OCM Phase II, JBP works to establish how channel partners will create business plans that align with both operator and supplier business goals. In particular, the JBP Committee is focusing on creating the process, language, tools and metrics required to facilitate planning collaboration between supply chain partners.
