'84 Gold Plate Winner Ted Balestreri to host 2013 Celebration

Following a stellar performance last year, by another industry idol, Ralph Brennan, Balestreri will head up the master of ceremony duties at the 59th Annual Gold & Silver Plate Awards Celebration on May 20 at the Great Hall in Union Station in Chicago. 

Ted is well known in the Monterey Peninsula area.  After Ted and his family moved from Brooklyn, NY to the Monterey Peninsula, he  graduated of Carmel High in 1958, he attended Monterey Peninsula College and graduated from Lewis Hotel Management School in Wash., D.C. in 1961.  July 1991, he was one of the first to receive the Foodservice Management Professional (FMP) certification from the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF).

Returning to Monterey, he formed a partnership in 1968 and opened the Sardine Factory Restaurant in the Cannery Row area of Monterey.  He is Chairman and CEO of the Cannery Row Company, and Chairman/CEO and Co-Founder of the Sardine Factory.  Additionally, Pacific Hospitality, incorporated in 1983 and until 2007, held the franchise rights for Wendy's International, covering a tri-county area in Northern California.

Balestreri has been one of the most celebrated leaders in the industry, earning such awards as (but not limited to):

--May 1984, IFMA Gold Plate Award, the highest honor possible in the industry.

--January 22, 2010, Jr. Achievement of Silicon Valley & Monterey Bay, Monterey Bay Business Hall of Fame Award

--Feb. 6, 2010, Monterey County Business Council Industry Leaders Award

--March 2008, Citizen of the Year Award from the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce.

--October 2006, received the Leadership Round table Industry Leadership Award.

--May 2006, received Nation's Restaurant News Fine Dining Hall of Fame Legend Award, along with Bert Cutino.
